Enjoy the Journey: New Opportunities
Life's path is often full of twists and turns, but progress requires action, not standing still.
As Alice found out in "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," knowing where you want to end up is essential, but the exact path might not be clear until you take the first step. Dreaming big is admirable, but filling countless notebooks with plans won't achieve much. Sometimes, all it takes is that first step to set the wheels in motion.
Reflecting back on my own journey a year ago, I was facing the stress of financial constraints and time management issues. I was taking up every freelancing job I could find to increase my income, but it became overwhelming. It was then that my husband suggested I reach out to local animators and start a small studio, taking on the role of an art director and producer. Initially hesitant, I dismissed the idea, but it lingered in my mind, refusing to fade away.
Eventually, I decided to give it a shot. I joined a Facebook group of local animators, and as I sifted through portfolios, I found a few with great potential. Soon, I was setting up zoom calls and connecting with animators. With renewed confidence, I reached out to previous clients, informing them about my small studio. Little by little, the gears began to turn, and the studio was in motion.
The experience of letting go of control and trusting other animators was nerve-wracking, but it was a pivotal moment. I realized that without taking that leap, the venture wouldn't flourish. As the studio grew, I found myself seeking even more animators to keep up with the workload. Balancing this new endeavor with my full-time job, I immersed myself in reviewing cuts, managing schedules, and fostering smooth communication between clients and animators. The excitement and passion for this new role were palpable, and I was thriving.
Although planning and preparation are vital, they can also lead us down unforeseen paths. My initial plan was different from where I stand now, but the planning provided the foundation for seizing unforeseen opportunities. The journey has taught me invaluable lessons and spurred significant personal growth. I've discovered how to be more effective as an artist while reducing stress and embracing new horizons.
So, I invite you to consider the idea you've been contemplating lately. Take that first step, even if the path seems uncertain. Embrace the excitement of the unknown, for it may lead you to unexplored and enriching opportunities. Remember, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
